ABOUT BLOOMSBURG THEATRE ENSEMBLE
FOUNDED IN 1978 by a collective of young theatre artists, the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble (BTE) is a professional resident theatre company dedicated to producing and supporting live theatre throughout rural Northeast and Central Pennsylvania.
Our founders built BTE as a place where theatre artists could be employed full-time, year-round as theatre artists. Here, actors, directors, and playwrights could grow and create great work through long-term collaboration with their fellow ensemble members, stability, and deep engagement with the community. The end goal was, and continues to be, to create a theatre that would be—in the words of their mentor Alvina Krause—“as important to its community as schools and churches.”
Our roles extend beyond the stage. Through our original productions and programs like Theatre School and Theatre in the Class, we have served as public historians, educators, and facilitators.
BTE’s core program is its mainstage season, a series of plays selected, produced, and performed by our resident artists. Our other programs include Theatre School classes, the annual Theatre in the Classroom tour, BTE/Columbia Montour Visitors Bureau Presented Events, BTE Improv, TreeFest, and BTE Backyard Beats & Eats. We hope to see you at one of our future shows.
