I AM/WE ARE
A BTE Original Production and Oral History Project
“Who is Bloomsburg,” as told by its residents
Launching July 4th, 2025
Set to Premiere in 2027
A BTE ORIGINAL PRODUCTION AND PROJECT
Over its last 47 years, the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble has elevated the stories of rural Pennsylvanians to the national stage through compiling interviews, documents, and stories into original plays like Letters to the Editor and Flood Stories, Too. Now, we’re turning our attention to our home–the only town in Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg.
Increasing ideological divides, technological shifts, and health crises across the nation have eroded the overall sense of community that once went unquestioned. So, BTE is asking: “Who is Bloomsburg?”
Life-long and former residents, passers-through, expats, and prodigal children will have the chance to share their stories about life in Bloomsburg with the Resident Acting Company through long-form interviews, oral history circles, forums, phone hotlines, and other interactive events over the next two years. Once gathered, our RAC will weave these stories into a live non-traditional performance that unpacks the ‘un vs them’ mentality and illuminates Bloomsburg residents’ commonalities, showcases the town’s multifaceted identity, demonstrates why we choose to interact with our community, and tells the story of the only town in Pennsylvania.
